Cookie grew up neighbours with Freddie King's children and at one time spent five years playing with the Freddie King Jr band. A left-hander, she plays the guitar "upside down and wrong way round" but that hasn't stopped her producing the blistering old school guitar breaks which mark her performances. Her career has been intermittent but as the South West blues magazine noted back in 1998 she is "..one of those Dallas-Fort Worth blues people who will pop up from time to time, seemingly from nowhere, and just shock the heck out of you"
