I Know absolutely nothing about Billy Jones, except that he has produced this promotional album of mostly covers which has 15 songs on it. The album starts with "Marry My Mother-In-Law" which begins with some lovely melodic guitar and organ at a kind walking pace, which gives way to a good piano solo, which in turn gives way to some good guitar playing. I can only assume that Billy Jones sings this great little tale, if it is Billy singing he handles the vocals very well. Latimore's "Let's Straighten It Out" is sang with plenty of fire and power. Whilst B.B. King's classic reading of "Don't Answer The Door" is of a high standard, Billy's reading of this song is outstanding and certainly almost as good as B.B's version. My personal favorite on this album is Clarence Carter's "Slip Away" which has a good smooth yet hardish vocal. "Her Daddy's Alligator Farm" is a good blues tune, but some very good guitar playing is mixed to low in the mix, slightly spoiling the song. "The Rumor" is a melodic love song, "Make Love Tonight" is a tougher love song with some good vocals on it. "Doin' Aright Again" has some extended Hammond Organ playing combined with some great guitar playing. "Breakdown" brings this good album to a close.
It is a pity that there isn't any information on the album as I think the album is good. There is some good vocals and some very good playing from someone, or maybe Billy Jones sings and plays everything, which in that case means, watch out for Billy Jones as he is on his way along the musical highway called the blues. by Dave Thomas
